"And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Rev. 20:12-15
Hell is not a fictional location created to frighten children or deter them from misbehaving. Rather, it is a genuine place designated for those who reject God, fail to seek forgiveness, and do not acknowledge Jesus as their Savior and Lord. The term "hell" is mentioned numerous times in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible.
Sheol
The Hebrew term Sheol is found 66 times in the Old Testament, yet it is rendered as "hell" only 19 times in the King James and New King James versions. Typically, Sheol is translated as "grave" or "pit," representing the concept of death and finality.
Hades
In the New Testament, the Greek word Hades bears a similar meaning to Sheol in the Old Testament. It is portrayed as a prison enclosed with gates, bars, and locks.
Gehenna
Within the New Testament, the Greek term Gehenna is utilized to depict the abode of the lost. It is described using symbolic language that conveys the dreadful nature of the situation within.
Tartarō̂
The Greek word Tartarō̂ is mentioned once in the New Testament and is translated as "hell" in the ESV.
Furthermore, the Bible portrays hell as a place characterized by eternal chains, a furnace of conscious torment, and excruciating misery.
Dear friends, it's important to remember that only those who have rejected Christ as their Savior will face judgment at the great white throne. This judgment is reserved for those who have chosen not to accept Jesus as their true Lord and have arrogantly crowned themselves king. Do not fall into this grave error! Instead, put your trust in the Lord Jesus, seek His forgiveness for your sins, and be prepared to appear before the Son of Man at the judgment seat of Christ (Luke 21:36). One thing is certain: Everyone will find themselves in either heaven or hell. Ensure that it is the former. Disbelief in the existence of heaven or hell will not alter the fact that all will be judged and allocated to one of these destinations. "Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ." 2 Peter 1:10-11
If you are a non believer in Jesus, and after reading this would like to be saved from enternal hell, pray this prayer with me and believe! "Lord Jesus, for too long I’ve kept you out of my life. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear you knocking. By faith I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank you for bearing my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe your words are true. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen."
