Separated from Christ!

Remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2:12-13

This passage of scripture references Gentiles, or non-Jews, before and after their acceptance of Jesus Christ. Initially, they were separated from the community and promises given to Israel, living without hope and without God. However, through the sacrificial death of Jesus, they are brought near to God, becoming part of His covenant and community. The passage emphasizes the unifying power of Christ's sacrifice, bringing both Jews and Gentiles into one spiritual family. This scripture highlights the significant divide between Jews and Gentiles before the coming of Christ, emphasizing the privileges and blessings the Jews had as God's chosen people. The Gentiles, on the other hand, were excluded from these benefits and lived without the spiritual advantages provided by a relationship with God. Here's a breakdown of this context:

  1. Commonwealth of Israel: The term refers to the collective benefits and privileges of being part of Israel, similar to the advantages citizens of Greek city-states enjoyed.

  2. Strangers to the Covenants of Promise: The Gentiles were not part of the covenants that God made with Israel, such as the Abrahamic and Mosaic covenants, which included promises of blessing and relationship with God.

  3. Having No Hope: Without these covenants and promises, the Gentiles had no hope of eternal life or a relationship with God.

  4. Without God in the World: They did not have the guidance, presence, or assistance of God in their lives.

  5. Separated from Christ: Before knowing Christ, they were distant from the salvation and reconciliation that He provides.

In their pre-Christian life, Gentiles experienced spiritual alienation and lacked the hope and relationship with God that was available to the Jews. However, through Christ, they were brought near and included in God's family, receiving the same promises and blessings. Through Jesus Christ we've been brought into the family of God and are now part of the body of Christ.

In conclusion the referenced verses encapsulates the essence of the Gospel: through Jesus' death and resurrection, all people, regardless of their previous spiritual state, can be reconciled to God and become part of His family. The barriers of separation are broken down, and unity is established in Jesus Christ. What has separated you from Christ, maybe drugs, alcohol, fornication, pornography or adultery, whatever it is God can and will help you. Pray this prayer with me "Dear Father forgive me of my sins and deliver me from these sins that have held me captive for so long. come into my heart and save my soul. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and accept him as my Saviour! In Jesus name I thank you for saving me! If you prayed that prayer lift up your head and raise your hands in praise and adoration to our God and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
